How it's made
From filament to your shelf.
Every Orova piece is 3D printed to order in our Philadelphia studio — nothing is mass-produced or pulled from a warehouse shelf.
1. Design
Every shape starts as a 3D model, sculpted digitally and tested for structural balance — most of our pieces rely on cantilevers and splayed legs, so print orientation and wall thickness are worked out before anything gets printed.
2. Print, layer by layer
Once you order, your piece is queued on an FDM 3D printer and built up in standard PLA filament — a plant-based bioplastic — one thin layer at a time, in the color you chose at checkout.
3. Finish, by hand
Support material is removed, edges are cleaned up, and every piece is checked by hand for a stable, even fit before it's packed — small imperfections are part of the handmade, printed texture, not a flaw.
4. Ship, nationwide
Your order ships from Philadelphia, PA to anywhere in the US. Because everything is made to order, please allow a short production lead time before your piece ships — details at checkout.
Material
Printed in PLA filament.
PLA (polylactic acid) is a plant-based bioplastic derived from renewable resources like corn starch, rather than petroleum. It's the standard, well-tested material for FDM 3D printing, and it's what every Orova piece is built from — chosen for its rigidity, color range, and reliable print quality.
A note on care: PLA softens in high heat, so keep pieces out of direct hot sun or near heat sources, and wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth.
